About Kelley Crittenden
Kelley’s work elevates and uplifts the whole person, enabling each of her clients to strive for internal equilibrium and attain their full potential of living well in body, mind, and spirit. She brings an abundance of varied life experiences into her practice, all of which complements her formal training and gives her a deeper understanding of each client and his or her specific needs and concerns.
Kelley has practiced in Arizona since 1998, when she joined the Scottsdale holistic medical practice of Dr. Gladys McGarey, MD, MHD, internationally recognized as the mother of holistic medicine, and Dr. Helene Wechsler, Dr. McGarey’s daughter (scottsdaleprivatephysicians.com). In 2000, Kelley started her own practice and now divides her professional time between her Phoenix office and her new home in Bisbee.
Acupuncture helps the body heal itself before a serious illness manifests. Together with healthy eating, adequate rest, mindfulness breathing, and exercise, regular acupuncture treatments provide a solid groundwork for taking responsibility of one’s body and living a healthy lifestyle. That said, if an illness or dis-ease is present, Kelley’s main focus is to alleviate the discomfort while working to balance the entire body. Spiritual and emotional issues are a part of one’s health. Kelley understands there is a crucial connection between the mind and one’s state of health, and she works to create the appropriate balance in each person. Using the art of pulse assessment, her experience and understanding of human nature, and her infectious sense of humor, she determines the unique and appropriate treatment for each individual.
One physician at Dr. Weil’s Department of Integrative Medicine in Tucson said, “I receive rave reviews of Kelley's work from every patient I send to her.”
Prior to studying acupuncture, Kelley graduated with honors from New York University in New York City, and then traveled in Europe for two years. Afterwards she co-owned a bookstore on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Her first foray into bodywork started with shiatsu and massage, which she studied at the prestigious Swedish Institute. After two years practicing massage and craniosacral therapy in Manhattan, she was guided to take her healing hands to another level, and began her study of acupuncture in hopes of reaching the deeper levels of profound healing that she herself had experienced. Kelley received a Master’s Degree in Acupuncture from the Tradition Acupuncture Institute (TAI), now known as MD University of Integrative Health in Laurel, MD. TAI was the first accredited acupuncture program in the United States, and is a five element school, which teaches the significance of the five elements: fire, earth, metal, water, and wood, which symbolically express the movement of nature and correspond to the body, mind, and spirit of each individual.
Kelley’s goal is always to bring balance to each person she treats, and she continues to update her skills by attending workshops and seminars frequently. She feels very lucky and blessed to be able to positively impact so many lives through her work.
